I've spent my career at the intersection of beauty and health — formulating, sourcing, and evaluating ingredients with one standard: if it's going on your skin every day, it has to earn its place there.
So when I fell on a ski mountain in Tahoe — nothing dramatic, the kind of fall you shake off on the slope but felt the next morning with lower back pain — I did what I always did and reached for a drugstore pain cream.
A few days in, the familiar skin reaction arrived: dry, tight, red skin all over my lower back. Like most people, I assumed it was simply the price of relief. I told myself the burn meant it was working — that the high concentration of analgesics was proof the formula was doing its job. I didn't think twice about it at the time.
Several months later I started working from home. Neck tension. Shoulder stiffness. The kind of low-grade daily accumulation that builds hour by hour at a screen.
